A fatal traffic accident early Wednesday morning has claimed two lives and closed down the westbound lanes a major thoroughfare. The single vehicle accident occurred shortly before 2:00 AM at the intersection of Reata Road and Bear Valley Road (19100 block). The late model sedan was heading westbound on Bear Valley from Apple Valley Road at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and went sideways into a power pole. Its not known if the incident involved street racing. Apple Valley Fire responded to the scene and pronounced two individuals deceased. The Major Accident Investigation Team was responding to the scene to conduct the investigation. The westbound lanes of Bear Valley Road, a major east/west commuter thoroughfare, are expected to remain closed into the morning commute.
