Early Thursday morning, December 26, 2019, a winter storm brought several inches of snow to the pass. Heavy snow began falling on the 15 Freeway through the pass shortly after midnight. Due to snowy and icy conditions the California Highway Patrol were escorting motorists through the pass. Around 6:00am CalTrans was forced to close the freeway in both directions from the 138 to Ranchero as motorists were becoming stranded in the deep snow. Many motorists were stuck for roughly 5 hours until CalTrans was able to reopen the freeway around 11:00am.
