Dockworker vs Tophandler | PORT OF LONG BEACH, CA 12.10.20

PORT OF LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA – At approximately 8:00 PM a longshoreman was pinned under a piece of heavy machinery while performing his duties. It is unknown at this time if the worker is a member of the longshore division of the ILWU Local 13 or perhaps a clerk of Local 63. Long Beach firefighters work diligently to free the patient from underneath a very large tophandler machine. Tophandlers are operated by dockworkers and are used to pick up cargo containers and place them on the empty chassis of a semi truck.

The patient was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Long Beach in an altered state with unknown injuries.
