Harlem NEW YORK / Scooter vs Taxi, Taxi Driver Assaulted & Shot At, Taxi Stolen 8.31.20

HARLEM NY 8.31.20 | by Adam Balhetchet | HARLEM, Manhattan – A taxi driver was assaulted and shot at by a mob of people after he hit a pedestrian. It happened at 3:10 am Monday at West 131 St & Frederick Douglas Blvd. According to the cabbie, he saw a girl on an electric scooter dart out in front of him and hit his pedestrian side door. He stopped and tried to help her. A disorderly group of people surrounded him and demanded money. One of them even punched him in the face. He ran south towards 129th St. He stated they were going after him, even shooting at him, as he hid and ducked behind parked cars. NYPD’s shotspotter was activated as well. Police found the taxi on West 134th St between 7th and 8th Ave. The taxi was found unoccupied. The scooter owner came to tell police and stated the girl asked to test drive his scooter and she got hit by a cab. Damage was visible on the scooter. The cabbie also stated he did not know how his cab ended up on 134th St, possibly the gunmen may have stolen it, drove a few blocks, and abandoned the vehicle there. He also described the female victim in her late teens.
