On Friday night, January 10, 2020, a sedan with five subjects inside led officers on a wild pursuit through the cities of Moreno Valley and Riverside. The pursuit started around 11:14pm, near Perris Blvd. and the 60 Freeway, when officers with the California Highway Patrol attempted to stop a vehicle without headlights on. The driver refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. At times speeds reached 110 mph. At one point, the driver entered a Walmart parking lot, occupied by shoppers at the time. As the driver continued to weaved their way through the city of Moreno Valley, they failed to stop at red lights and stop signs. Officers deployed a spike strip on Hemlock Ave. just east of Heacock St., which appeared to have disabled two of the tires. The driver then entered the westbound 60 Freeway at Heacock St. where one tire shredded sending debris across lanes of traffic. The vehicle continued westbound on the 60 freeway into the City of Riverside where it exited at University Ave. The driver then weaved their way through the UCR campus losing a second tire and continuing to flee from pursuing officers, on two rims. Once in a safe location, officers used the PIT maneuver to bring the pursuit to a successful end on Watkins Dr. near Barret Rd. Officers were able to take all five individuals into custody without further incident. The plate on the vehicle may have been stolen as it was coming back to a Ford Utility vehicle, not a sedan.
