PYRAMID LAKE: Ventura County Search and Rescue Member Killed in Freeway Crash

[image: Screen Shot 2019-02-02 at 11.58.36 AM.png] A volunteer for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team was killed in an accident near Pyramid Lake this morning.
The crash happened around 7:30 AM when a vehicle rolled over along the northbound 5 freeway just south of Smokey Bear Road.
The VCSD Search and Rescue team were nearby when they stopped to help. That is when the driver of a minivan carrying several inside lost control and crashed, killing the female volunteer and injuring several others.
Another member of the search and rescue team was critically injured.
A total of nine were taken to the hospital, including an L.A. County Firefighter.
Captain Tony Imbrenda of the Los Angeles County Fire Department says the situation could have been avoidable if drivers slowed down during the rain storm.
The deceased team member’s exact identity has not been released.
