Early Monday morning, September 02, 2019, the California Highway Patrol along with the City of Riverside Fire Department and AMR responded to multiple reports of a traffic collision on the 91 Freeway at the Riverside interchange. The major injury crash was reported around 2:30am on the westbound 91 Freeway under the Spruce Street overpass. First arriving emergency crews located a two vehicle traffic collision, a mini van and a small SUV, both with major damage. Unconfirmed reports indicated one person may have been ejected and was transported in critical condition. At least three other people, including a child, were transported to area hospitals in unknown conditions. All westbound lanes of the 91 Freeway were expected to remain closed for several hours while officers conducted their investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
