Early Sunday morning January 27, 2019 the City of Riverside Fire Department along with the Riverside Police Department and AMR responded to reports of a vehicle vs hydrant traffic collision in the City’s Eastside neighborhood. The crash was reported around 12:20am on University Avenue at Comer Avenue. The first arriving engine company reported a solo SUV on its side with a sheared hydrant. The driver was able to self extricate from the overturned SUV and was transported to an area hospital with unknown injuries. Firefighters were able to shut the hydrant down withing 15 minutes. Police are working to determine if alcohol and or speed played roles in the crash.
