*Time* – 1928 *Location* – I5NB, South of Calgrove Blvd *Handling Agencies* – CHP Newhall, LACoFD
At approximately 1928, LACoFD and CHP Responded to reports of a traffic collision with fire. Arriving units found a SUV that had struck the back of a semi truck on the Right shoulder and had burst into flames. About 1/2 acre of brush burned as well. The driver of the semi truck was able to detach the trailer and move the tractor up the road. Two occupants of the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. CHP has a SIGALERT in place. Traffic on the NB5 is backed up all the way to the 210 Freeway. Per CHP Cad notes, multiple witnesses saw the SUV traveling at speeds of about 100 miles per hour just prior to the crash. CHP Newhall is handling the fatality investigation.
