ORO GRANDE – A freight train collided with a passenger car Wednesday night in Oro Grande. The accident occurred around 6:55 PM near National Trails Highway (21300 block) and Peso Court. The accident location did not appear to be near any crossing. A female driver was rescued from the car and transported to an air ambulance to be flown to the trauma center at Loma Linda Medial Center. The accident investigation closed down the major train thoroughfare leading to the delay of numerous trains including Amtrak’s Southwest Chief. The north/east bound Southwest Chief was stopped for an extended period of time at the Victorville Station. The California Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
