Wrong Way Pursuit Crash, Bad Guy Gets Away | MENIFEE, CA 12.31.20

MENIFEE, CALIFORNIA – On Thursday morning December 31, 2020 officers with the Hemet Police Department were in pursuit of a stolen pick-up truck. The pursuit started in the area of Curvey and Florida in the City of Hemet. The suspect led officers on a pursuit through Menifee before entering the 215 Freeway at Newport Road, wrong way. The suspect traveled southbound in the northbound lanes for almost a mile before slamming head-on into another motorist. The suspect then fled from the crash on foot and into a nearby field and residential area. According to a California Highway Patrol incident log, the suspect was last seen wearing a grey sweatshirt, gray shorts, a hat and a face mask. The female driver of a Lab Corp van had to be extricated from the vehicle. The woman was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital in unknown condition. It wasn’t immediately clear if the suspect was still outstanding. All southbound lanes of the 215 Freeway are expected to remain closed while police conduct their investigation.
