BROOKLYN: Person Fatally Struck in Hit & Run

CYPRESS HILLS, Brooklyn (DCPI) – On Friday, December 14, 2018, at 0052 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist struck at the intersection of Pitkin Avenue and Atkins Avenue, within the confines of the 75 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed an unconscious and unresponsive 21-year-old male bicyclist lying on the roadway with trauma about the body. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the male deceased at the scene. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that a white box truck was traveling eastbound on Pitkin Avenue and made a right turn to travel southbound on Atkins Avenue when it struck the bicyclist in the vicinity of the intersection. The bicyclist was also traveling eastbound on Pitkin Avenue within the marked bike lane. The vehicle did not remain at the scene.
