MANHATTAN: Cyclist Killed by Dump Truck

11.9.19 | Video by Adam Balhetchet | HARLEM, Manhattan (DCPI) – On Saturday, November 9, 2019 at 0233 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a bicyclist in the vicinity of East 125 Street and Willis Avenue, within the confines of the 25 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 25-year-old male lying on the roadway with severe trauma about the body. EMS also responded to the location and transported the victim to Harlem Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
A preliminary investigation by the NYPD Highway Unit’s Collision Investigation Squad determined a Kenworth dump truck traveling southbound on 1st avenue made an illegal left turn onto eastbound East 125th Street attempting to enter the Willis Avenue Bridge and struck a bicyclist traveling southbound on a bike path coming off the bridge. The vehicle did not remain at the scene and was last observed northbound on the Willis Avenue Bridge. There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
