10.22.19 | Video by Adam Balhetchet | UPPER EAST SIDE (DCPI) – On Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at approximately 0102 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian (DOT worker) struck in front of 521 East 88 Street, within the confines of the 19 Precinct. Upon arrival, officers observed a 44-year-old male lying on the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive, with trauma about the body. EMS responded to the location and transported the aided male to NY Presbyterian/ Weill Cornell Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined the pedestrian/worker was standing behind a yellow 2005 Mack DOT dump truck at the location, performing work on the road surface, when the truck- operated by a 35-year-old male- began to travel in reverse, backing up and striking the worker, causing him to fall to the roadway with the truck rolling over the aided male. The investigation remains ongoing.
